Arkansas Children's Hospital

Two years ago my daughter was born and she wasn't breathing and had severe pneumonia. She had to be air flighted to a children's hospital to be able to have a chance to live.  Unfortunately Arkansas Children's Hospital didn't have a free helicopter that night so we ended up going to Tulsa. (Which was an AMAZING place to be.)  But I'm thankful for places like ACH who work hard to save children's lives every day. They hold a VERY special place in my heart. We have to go to ACH in a couple of months for something very minor for our daughter and no matter how big or how small the issue - I'm thankful that we live in a state with a children's hospital that has such a great reputation!

One of my good friends recently wrote a children's book called "Silly Sock".  50% of her sales are going to ACH.  She is doing this in honor of her nephew who was born several years ago at ACH at 25 weeks weighing less than a pound.  (Read Logan's story here on Jaimi's blog) This is a great way to raise money for a hospital who does so much! You can go here http://www.sillysockbook.com/ to purchase a book or even to donate one to go to a child who is staying at ACH! Little things can mean so much to a sick child and their family!

Do you have any stories or experiences with how ACH has helped you??? I know so many families in NWA have been touched by this great hospital! I'd love to hear your stories!

  1. On March 5, 2009 one of best friends gave birth to a baby girl. London was born not breathing. Since she was born in a smaller hospital the nearest NICU was about 20 minutes away. The team from that hospital came to transport London, but on arrival determined that she needed to go to Lebeonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN. London stayed only a few days in Lebonheur before being airlifted to ACH. London stayed at ACH for several weeks. Everyone was so nice. Every nurse made it feel as though London was their only priority. She was an extremely sick baby and had to be put on ECMO. (It's a machine that works for the heart) London wasn't given a large percentage to make a full recovery. However, she has met every milestone the past two years. She is a vibrant little girl with a big personality. I was very inpressed at ACH for the care they provided to London as well as her family and friends. Thank you so much ACH for all that you do.

  2. My second son, Levi, was born 6.23.10 and the pediatrician heard a heart murmur. After an Echo was performed and sent to ACH for review, he was diagnosed with Aortic Stenosis, which means his aortic valve was too narrow for blood flow and his little heart was having to work harder to pump blood. At 3mos we had to take him to ACH to open the valve. From the time we entered the doors and until we left, every single person there welcomed us and comforted us. They are an amazing group of doctors/nurses. Praise the Lord, the procedure worked and Levi is doing great!! He will have to have repeat Echos to monitor the valve but we know the Lord is watching over him.

p.s. I've been following your blog even before you had Harper and I fervently prayed for that sweet baby when she was born. I'm so happy she is happy and healthy! Can't wait to hear about Ms. Hollis' arrival. :) Take care!
