Fashion Friday: Sleepy Hogs (2 days late)

I know these are a couple days late, but my computer was dead and I'm just getting back to it.

Anyway, we all know that LAST week's game was super long thanks to the rain delays and I just thought these pictures of these loyal hog fans were cute. It's obvious they did there best to cheer on the hogs, but like most of us I'm sure they were worn out.
Go Hogs!!! Glad you won last week and again Saturday.
If you have pictures of your royal and loyal hog fans email them to knwablogger@knwa.com

Trick or Treat Night in Question

I've never heard, "When do we go trick or treating this year," UNTIL this year. I didn't realize that Halloween falling on a Sunday would lead to so many questions and concerns.

So, I had to ask some of you on facebook and twitter when you think Halloween should be and why is it even in question to begin with?

Here's what some of you said...

Kerryanne wrote, "Blah. This question drives me nuts. It's not like you have kiddos up until midnight on Halloween. If Halloween was on a Tuesday they wouldn't switch it to the following Saturday. Why would this be any different?"

Melissa wrote, " I think has more to do with it (Halloween) being on a Sunday."

Timothy said, "I think a huge reason is because the Razorback game is on Saturday and no one will be home to trick or treat. It seems a lot of things revolve around the Razorbacks and sometimes it ruins things for other people."

@MrsSaraScott tweeted, "I wouldn't want trick or treaters ringing my door bell during the Razorback game. I'm fine with Friday."

So there you go. That's just a handful of responses I got. For the most part no "big" city has changed their trick or treating night so the show will go on Sunday night. BUT there are lots of things Friday and Saturday for kiddos to enjoy.

Keeping with family tradition, I know we'll be hitting up the Fayetteville square Friday afternoon for a little Halloween fun, but there's events like that all around northwest Arkansas.

You can go here to see more events posted for Halloween weekend or even check out the events on the KNWA calendar.

I know we have a crazy busy weekend planned that entails being in costume a majority of the time, so maybe we'll see you around town!

Happy Halloween.

Hogs Go Dancing!

It's not what you think...BUT this Saturday all you Hog fans out there will have a chance to reach for your inner Michael Jackson. Whether your cheering on the Razorbacks from your living rooms OR in the stands, the band is inviting everyone to join in the fun and do their rendition of the "Thriller" dance.

How fun is that?! I first heard about this idea from a friend on Facebook and I was a little skeptical, but guess what it's the real deal.
There is even a how-to video on the alumni association website.
I don't know if I can get all the moves down before Saturday, but I am excited to see the crowd in action. I love the videos you can find on Youtube that shows the masses of people doing dance moves in unison. Maybe that will be hog fans this Saturday.

If you want to join the fun -- pass the information onto your friends and check on the tutorial video here.

Hope to see you strutting your stuff this Saturday.

Oh No It's Flu Season...Another Strain of Swine Flu?

It's hard to believe it's already flu season again. It seems like it was just yesterday everyone was paranoid about the newest strain of the flu, the swine flu.
People lined up for hours to get their flu shot and swine flu shots. It was all over the news, etc. Now it's that time of year again, and according to this article there is a new swine flu strain emerging. We can NEVER win. We all know it's not uncommon for the flu virus to mutate, but its starting to sound like this swine flu strain is more dangerous. (Isn't that always the case).

So while this year's flu season seems to be a little calmer I'm wondering if this is just the beginning of panic season?

That being said, since I'm pregnant I was wondering if I should get the flu shot this year. You know to protect myself and the baby. Well, if it was up to my husband I would never leave the house this time of year, but that's not possible. I'm a busy mom. :)

I asked a lot of you and professionals and decided to go with it. I know some of you will disagree with that decision and others will shake your heads in agreement, but it was a decision we had to make and we did.

Are any or you struggling with this decision this year? Do you have concerns about the flu shot or any other vaccines for that matter?

This is your chance to sound off.
Remember you can always email me too knwablogger@knwa.com

Here's to hoping this flu season isn't bad and the "new" strain of swine flu stays away!

Stay Healthy!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

For those of you who are up early on the days we Skype on KNWA Today then you've heard me mention that this month is breast cancer awareness month.
Well, in honor of October I've picked a blog to feature on the blog the entire month. And while I've mentioned it several times, I thought I'd write about it here too because this women's journey with breast cancer is NOW and she's writing about it.

Patti is a local women who is a mom of two, wife to one and an art teacher to many Springdale students. Her story is honest. Her story is real. Her story will tug at your heart. Please if you have time to read through her posts...she didn't start writing that long ago, so you can start from the beginning...do it.

I haven't met Patti, but I hope to. I've run into several people that have either seen her blog linked to Something to Blog About or on heard me talk about her blog Skype and they just go on and on about her and her awesome attitude. You can go here or click on the link to the side.

Lets continue to support Patti and her journey with Breast Cancer.

HUGE Stroller Recall

If you own a Graco stroller check this out because you don't want to own this kind of Graco stroller.
The deaths of 4 infants has sparked this recall. You can read all the details here, but I wanted to make sure you were all informed.
I know we own a Graco so I had to make sure we were in the clear.

Haysterical Maze

Sorry for my tardiness, but a few elements of our computer (one being the battery) died and wasn't replaced until last night.
ANYWAY, we visited another pumpkin patch yesterday. It's really a hay maze (hence the name) and some fun games set up over by Harber High School in Springdale. It was super fun.
We went with a group of moms and a bunch of little ones and they had a blast. I have several pictures but due to the tech issues they're not uploading right now so I stole this picture from the facebook page.
It was a good time. There were barrel rides, hay games, a small hay maze for little ones, and of course the bigger one for kids of ALL ages. You can go here to learn more about the hours and contact information.
I hope to visit at least one more pumpkin patch/hay maze so if you have any suggestions send them my way!
Happy Fall!

I promise you ANYONE can make these. They are so good AND so simple. Check out the recipe here.

Pumpkin Fun

I told ya'll I was looking for a pumpkin patch to visit. Well, this weekend we ventured out to Ozark Corn Maze and had a good time.
It really is a kid friendly place. They loved the cow train.
And there were goats and pigs for the kids to pet.

And for the "big" kids there is the Corn Cannon where shoot corn at a target. The is also a HUGE Razorback corn maze but we were there with a bunch of toddlers and it was getting dark so we didn't risk it, ha.
Anyway, it's no shocker that I love this time of year, so if you have other suggestions please let me know!

Look Again...Because You Can. Don't Miss This!

You know her as the spunky personality that enters your living room every weeknight, but now KNWA anchor, Neile Jones, is sharing a story close to her heart.
It's her story. It's her story of survival. It's real. It's honest and it's 100% Neile. Behind the makeup, the hairspray, and smile on-air, Neile has a story she is sharing with YOU. It's her SURVIVAL story of a history of domestic violence. It's a read you wont want to miss. Here's KNWA's recent story on the new book release and where you can find a copy. Take time to read "Look Again...Because You Can." Neile wrote this book in hopes of helping others in similar circumstances. Even if you've never been the victim of abuse, reading this book could possibly help you understand what a loved one, friend, a co-worker is possibly going through.

If you sit down and read it, let me know what you think. There's already been a great response!

Pumpkin Patch Please

Let me just say I'm loving this weather. I DO NOT WANT IT TO WARM BACK UP. Ok, I said my piece. So now between the apple crisp and cooler weather I'm ready to hit the town in search of the perfect pumpkin. Since I'm from Oregon, buying a pumpkin DOES NOT mean swinging by the local grocery store (there is nothing wrong with that). I NEED a good ole pumpkin patch to
search through.
That being said, I know many of you have already hit up the local patches and I'd LOVE to share your photos. So, send me an email at knwablogger@knwa.com. Please tell me which pumpkin patch you went to and your favorite part.
In honor of fall, I plan on visiting one soon.
I don't know where yet, but if you're looking here are a couple sites of some pumpkin patches I found online.

Tasty Tuesday: Apple Crisp

If you like apples you're going to LOVE this recipe. My mom's apple crisp is one of my favorites. I made it the other day for our small group and it was a huge hit.

This is a perfect recipe for the fall. Happy Fall Ya'll!

Fashion Friday: Let's Call Those Hogs

Keeping up with the Razorbacks BIGGEST "little" fans I wanted to share some more cute hog gear for kids. This future cheerleader is strutting her stuff on campus! Thanks for sharing the pictures "mom".

Only kids in Arkansas are NOT scared of a wild looking hog...gotta love it!
It amazes me how much game day gear there is for little ones! This stud is sporting a super cute hog shirt.
If you have a little one in some cute hog gear shoot me an email and maybe they'll be on next week's fashion Friday!
